Opening

Buy two of the same one. Once a baby has decided which object is theirs, washing it turns into a problem you have to solve at eleven at night — and a second identical one in rotation removes that entirely. It is the most useful thing anyone tells a new parent about comforters, and almost nobody does.

It is a 30cm square of cotton gauze with a soft cat head in one corner. The gauze is the crinkled, open-woven kind, so it is light to hold and quick to dry, and at this size it folds into quarters and works as a dribble cloth as well.

What you get

One cat comforter in the design you select. Sold as a single piece, not a pair — if you want two, add two.

Fabric and safety

  • Body: cotton gauze
  • Head: filled, cotton outer
  • Seams: turned and closed, no exposed edge

Gauze is woven at a low thread density and tacked at intervals rather than pressed flat, which is why a 30cm square of it packs down smaller than a folded flannel of the same size. It is also why it dries through rather than staying damp in a changing bag, which matters on the piece that gets used to wipe a chin as well as held.

Cotton draws moisture into the fibre rather than holding it on the surface the way a synthetic pile does. That is the reason this works as a dribble cloth at all and a plush comforter does not.

Intended for supervised use. The Lullaby Trust advises keeping the cot clear of loose items under twelve months, so this is for daytime and supervised play.

Size guide

Fit notes

30cm folds into quarters at about the size of a face flannel — enough to be a genuine wipe, and still small enough to bunch inside a fist. If you have owned a 20cm doudou the difference is obvious the first time you need to clean something up.

The gauze relaxes and shrinks slightly on the first wash, as any open-woven cotton does. Allow around 1cm variance either way. On the three printed designs the fabric is cut from a continuous roll, so pattern placement shifts between pieces.

Styling

The plain shades sit close enough together that two different ones still read as a pair — Khaki with Dark Khaki, or Dusty Pink with Deep Dusty Pink, work as a rotation without looking mismatched. Orchid Floral, Yellow Ditsy Floral and White Rainbow are the gift picks, where the print is the point.

Care

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with like colours. Wash before first use; the gauze softens and crinkles further after the first wash. Tumble dry low or dry flat. Wash Brown and Dark Khaki separately for the first two or three cycles, as deeper shades release loose dye early. Do not bleach. Do not iron the head.

What is not included

Anything else in the photographs is styling only: blankets, baskets, wooden toys, dummies, clips, and any second comforter shown alongside the one photographed. Arrives without packaging.
