Opening

This one is worked by the adult. Your hand goes inside the body, the long ears flop when you move it, and the bunny becomes the thing that talks a baby through a nappy change or a car journey. A comforter waits to be picked up; a puppet is something you do with a child, which is why it holds attention longer than its size suggests.

The fabric is corduroy rather than the plush or muslin used elsewhere in the range. It has a visible rib running the length of the body and a matt finish, and sits closer to a piece of clothing than to a toy. The face is embroidered — no plastic eyes, no applied nose.

The embroidered face is the detail worth knowing about. Plastic safety eyes are the component most often checked on soft toys for under-threes, because a lens that works free is a small part in the wrong place. Here nothing is applied to the surface — the eyes and nose are stitched into the fabric.

Corduroy is a cut-pile woven cloth rather than a knit, so the rib is structural. It holds its shape through handling in a way jersey and knitted plush do not, which is why the ears stay flat and the head keeps its form.

Intended for supervised use. The Lullaby Trust advises keeping the cot clear of loose items under twelve months, so this is for daytime and supervised play.

Fit notes

The body is cut for an adult hand, not a child's. That is the design working as intended — a puppet an adult operates and a baby watches and grabs at, rather than something a baby puts their own hand into.

Corduroy varies in depth of colour between runs more than a flat woven does, because the rib catches light along its length. Yellow and Khaki are most affected. Allow around 1cm variance on the measurements.

Styling

The palette here is deeper than the rest of the range — Dark Brown, Wine Red and Forest Green sit closer to autumn clothing colours than to nursery pastels, which is the reason to pick this over a pastel comforter in a warm-toned room. Yellow and Pink sit brighter. Pairs well with a cotton comforter as a two-piece gift: one for the child to hold, one for the adult to work.

Care

Surface wash only. Sponge with a damp cloth and mild detergent, working along the rib rather than across it, then air dry away from radiators. Do not machine wash or tumble — corduroy pile crushes flat under agitation and heat, and a flattened rib does not come back. If the pile flattens in patches, a soft brush along the wale lifts it.
