Blue goose muslin baby comforter with teether loop

Goose Muslin Baby Comforter | 30cm with Teether Loop

£14.99

Opening

At 30cm square this is a comforter that is also a usable cloth. Fold it in four and it wipes a chin or a tray; open it out and it is the thing being carried round the house by one wing. Smaller doudous only ever do the second job, and the difference in practice is whether you need to be carrying a muslin as well.

It is a square of cotton gauze with a soft goose head at one corner and a fabric loop for attaching a teether. The gauze is the crinkled, open-woven kind rather than a flat cotton, so it stays light in the hand and dries through quickly after a wash.

What you get

One goose comforter in the colour you select, with its loop attached. No teether is supplied — see the exclusions at the end.

Fabric and safety

  • Body: cotton gauze
  • Head: filled, cotton outer
  • Loop: fabric, stitched into the seam

Gauze is woven at a deliberately low thread density and joined at intervals rather than pressed flat, which is why a 30cm square of it weighs almost nothing and packs down to less than a folded muslin. It is also why it dries quickly, which matters on the piece that gets used as a cloth as well as held.

The loop is worth a thought before you use it. Anything you attach to it hangs from the comforter, and a long strap or ribbon near a baby is the one thing to avoid — keep whatever goes on it short, attach nothing with a cord, and take the attachment off entirely rather than leaving it on unsupervised.

Intended for supervised use. The Lullaby Trust advises keeping the cot clear of loose items under twelve months, so this is for daytime and supervised play.

Fit notes

30cm is the useful part of this one. It folds into quarters at roughly the size of a face flannel, which is enough to be a genuine wipe rather than a token one, and it still bunches small enough for a baby to hold in a fist. If you have owned a 20cm doudou you will notice the difference immediately.

The gauze relaxes and shrinks very slightly on the first wash, as any open-woven cotton does. Allow around 1cm variance on the measurements either way.

Styling

Cream and Khaki are the quiet pair and sit with neutral nursery textiles without competing. Blue is the one with colour in it. All three work as the plain counterpart to a printed comforter — one to look at, one to actually use — and the larger square makes this the better of the two to keep in the changing bag.

Care

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with like colours. Wash before first use; the gauze softens and crinkles further after the first wash. Tumble dry low or dry flat. Remove anything attached to the loop before washing. Do not bleach. Do not iron the head.

What is not included

No teether, ring or clip is supplied — the loop is provided empty for you to attach your own. Anything else in the photographs is styling only: blankets, baskets, wooden toys, dummies, and any second comforter shown alongside the one photographed.
