Opening

Nappy storage gets leaked on. That is the whole case for this one over a structured organiser — no rigid panel, no shaped front, so when something goes wrong it goes in the machine rather than getting sponged at over a sink. Anyone who has owned a nursery caddy for six months knows which of those they would rather be doing.

It is a soft, pear-shaped hanging bag with a leaf motif, in a rainbow or an elephant print. It straps over a rail and hangs flat against a cot side, a bedside frame or a changing unit, putting nappies, wipes and a bottle at reaching height.

Fabric and safety

Three things worth knowing before you hang it.

• Mount it on the outside of a cot, never the inside. Safer sleep guidance is that the cot stays clear — no bags, no toys, nothing loose within reach of the baby.
• Keep the straps short. Fasten them so no loop hangs down where a child could reach it. Trailing strap length is the risk with any hanging nursery item, and it is fixed entirely at the point of fitting.
• Load it light. With no rigid frame it takes its shape from what is inside, so a heavy load pulls it long and narrow and puts all the strain on the straps.

Move it to a wardrobe door or the side of a changing unit once your child can stand and reach in a cot. That is usually the point at which a cot-mounted organiser stops being appropriate.

Fit notes

The straps are the variable. They suit a standard cot rail and most bedside and changing table frames, but a wide or deep rail uses up more strap length and leaves less to fasten with. Measure the depth of what you plan to hang it on if it is anything other than a conventional cot.

Because it is unstructured it hangs flat and slightly slumped rather than holding an open mouth. Soft items stack well; a tall bottle leans against the side rather than standing up in it.

Styling

The two prints do different jobs. Leaf Elephant is the quieter one and reads as a nursery textile rather than as storage. Leaf Rainbow carries more colour and works where the wall behind it is plain. Either pairs with the bunny organiser if you want two — one at the cot, one at the changing unit — though that one is structured and surface clean only, so this is the one for where spills happen.

Care

Machine washable. Empty it completely first, close any fastenings, and wash cool on a gentle cycle. Reshape it while damp and dry it flat rather than hanging it wet, because an unstructured bag stretches under its own water weight and will dry into whatever shape you leave it in. Do not tumble dry. Do not bleach a printed fabric.

What is not included

The organiser is supplied empty. Nappies, wipes, bottles, cotton wool, toys, blankets and anything else shown inside or beside it in the photographs are styling only. The cot, bedside frame and changing table shown are not included.
