Lace Heart embroidered dummy clip with beech wood fastening

Beech Wood Dummy Clip | Embroidered Soother Holder

Opening

A dummy on the floor of a bus is a dummy that is finished. A clip keeps it attached to the front of a top, which is the difference between one that gets picked up and rinsed and one that gets thrown away — and on a day out it is the difference between a calm journey and a long one.

This one is embroidered rather than printed, with a beech wood clip at the fastening end. The designs run to small flowers and lace rather than characters, so it reads as part of an outfit instead of as equipment.

What you get

Fabric and safety

This is the section to read on this product rather than the one to skip.

  • Clip it to clothing at the front, and nothing else. Never fasten a soother holder to a cot, a pram bar, a car seat, a bag strap or bedding. The whole point of the design is that it moves with the child.
  • Never lengthen it. Do not tie it to a ribbon, a second clip or anything else to gain reach. Length is the hazard with any soother holder, and the short strap is deliberate.
  • Take it off for sleep. It comes off before the cot, along with anything else loose.
  • Check it before each use. Look at the wooden clip for cracks or a weak spring, and at the stitching and lace for loose threads. Retire it rather than repairing it.

Beech is a close-grained hardwood, which is why it is the usual choice for this fitting — it takes a smooth edge and resists splintering in a way a soft wood does not. It is still wood: it should not be soaked, and a cracked clip is a clip to throw away.

Fit notes

The loop end suits a standard dummy with a ring or a shield opening. A dummy with a solid shield and no ring will not attach, so check the one you already use before ordering.

The wooden clip grips a jumper or a cardigan better than a thin vest, where it can slide. Fasten it through a seam or a placket rather than flat fabric if it needs to hold through a car journey.

Styling

Brown Flower and Green Flower are the quiet pair and sit with the neutral pieces in the range. Pink Embroidered Flower and Orange Flower carry more colour. The three lace designs are the gift picks — they photograph well and read as the more considered choice next to a plain silicone clip.

Care

Wipe the wooden clip with a damp cloth and dry it straight away. Hand wash the fabric strap in cool water and dry flat. Do not machine wash, do not soak, and do not sterilise — wood swells and lifts along the grain once it takes on water, and a lifted grain is a rough edge on the part nearest the dummy.

What is not included

No dummy, soother or teether is supplied — the clip is provided on its own for you to attach your own. Clothing, comforters, toys and anything else shown in the photographs are styling only.
