Opening

The puppy does two jobs at once. It is a comforter small enough to grip in one fist on the pram walk or in the car seat, and the cotton body is absorbent enough to catch dribble under the chin during teething. That means one item in the changing bag instead of two, and one thing to remember on the way out of the door.

It is a square of woven cotton with a soft-filled puppy head at one corner. The head is open at the base, so an adult hand slips inside and it works as a puppet for tummy time or as a distraction during a nappy change. At around 120g the whole piece is light enough for a baby to lift and move without effort.

Fabric and safety

The choice of cotton over a synthetic pile is what makes the dribble-cloth function work. Cotton draws moisture into the fibre itself, while polyester fleece holds it on the surface — so a cotton cloth lifts dribble off the chin, and a fleece one tends to move it around. It is also why this dries fully between washes rather than staying damp in the bag.

Intended for supervised use. The Lullaby Trust advises keeping the cot clear of loose items for babies under twelve months, so this is for daytime handling and supervised play.

Fit notes

One size only. The 25cm square is deliberately small — big enough to bunch inside a fist, small enough to push into a coat pocket. If you want something to cover a baby, this is not it. It is a hold-and-carry object rather than a blanket, and expecting cot-blanket dimensions is the most common mistake with this style.

Allow around 1cm variance on the measurements, as the heads are hand-finished. The Dachshund is the only colourway where the head shape differs from the others, being longer in the muzzle and shorter in the ear.

Styling

Worth having two of the same colourway once one becomes the favoured one, so there is a spare while the first is in the wash — more so here than with a plain comforter, since the dribble use means it goes through the machine more often. Cream Gingham and Grey Green Gingham sit tonally with cotton muslin squares and neutral nursery textiles. Pink Bow and Dachshund read better as the gift item, alongside a bib and booties in a hamper.

Care

Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle with like colours. Wash before first use; cotton reaches its full absorbency after the first two or three washes, so the dribble-cloth function improves early on. Tumble dry low or dry flat. Do not bleach. Do not iron the head.
